When users receiving an email-newsletter at first without their permission (opt-in) but with the possibility to sign out after receiving the message, it is called the opt-out method. However this procedere is, as far as the actual data security law is concerned, illegal and companies should only adress their news and marketing messages to those users who actively suscribed and are interested in the topic or product. This is much more effective in terms of ROI and avoids divergence losses and legal issues. Opt-in
